Hit Snooze on Snoring with Rhinoplasty

by Millennium Physician Group

We’ve all heard of someone having a nose job to look better, but could it help you sleep better? Turns out, rhinoplasty could be just the solution to help you have sweet dreams.

“As an ear, nose, and throat doctor, I am able to address the nose with concern not only for the shape of the nose but also for the function of the nose,” explains Millennium Physician Group Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist Mathew Connor, M.D. “I want all my patients to be able to breathe better after surgery.”

Rhinoplasty – often called a nose job – isn’t just for fashion. Dr. Connor says the procedure can improve function as well.

“Most people who snore do so through their mouth, and oftentimes it’s because they can’t get a breath through their nose because they’re congested at night.”

If your snoring is caused by a structural problem – like extra cartilage or a deviated septum –  rhinoplasty may be a solution to silence your snoring.

“Patients who are good candidates for nasal surgery such as rhinoplasty or septoplasty are those with chronic nasal obstruction that hasn’t improved with medical therapy,” says Dr. Connor. “With surgery, often we’re able to improve that so people can breathe better through their nose and get a better night’s rest.”

And better rest can boost your immune system, strengthen your heart, and even improve your memory. Hitting the snooze on snoring sounds like a prescription for better health.
