Maggie Rodriguez:
Preventing an illness or disease is always better than having to treat one and that’s why it’s important to see a primary care physician regularly. The team at Millennium Physician Group believes this is vital to better health and here to tell us more is Dr. Nektarios Demetriou. Doctor, welcome.
Dr. Nektarios Demetriou:
Thank you very much.
Maggie Rodriguez:
Tell us about Millennium Physician Group. How is it different from other medical groups or hospital-based groups?
Dr. Nektarios Demetriou:
Well, Millennium Physician Group is an independent physician group, it’s not owned by a hospital system so that sort of sets us apart. In addition to that, we approach health from the standpoint where we’re really, really big in regards to prevention. So our goal is to try to prevent an issue before it actually happens. And by doing that, when you come to see your primary care doctor at Millennium, the emphasis will be on what we can actually do to prevent you getting to a disease point over here by cutting it off at the very beginning by addressing certain issues that you may not even be aware of. So if we can do that, then that sort of really is what is our defining point as far as Millennium Physician primary care [inaudible 00:01:08].
Maggie Rodriguez:
And what would you say are some of the keys to overall better health and better medical outcomes?
Dr. Nektarios Demetriou:
You know, one of the keys is actually awareness, understanding that just because I’m young or because I’m of this age that I’m healthy is just to actually give yourself a baseline to get checked. It’s very important to know that we all are very different in regards to our health. You might get a 65-year-old who has sugar levels and cholesterol that are really really low. You might have a 20-year-old, the complete opposite end of the spectrum because there might be some genetics involved, et cetera. So it’s very important to start very early on, as best you can, but be aware and go to your doctor who can then order baseline tests to sort of start the process to get you where you need to be.
Maggie Rodriguez:
You know, I always feel, something I appreciate greatly, is when a doctor takes the time to learn my history, to tell me what I need, to help me with prevention. What’s your approach? How do you want patient to leave feeling your office?
Dr. Nektarios Demetriou:
You know, one of the things we want patients to feel is not always a pat on the back. It’s about constructive criticism. We’re really happy when you basically are doing really well, but we’re also trying to focus on those areas, which are really bringing down the positives that you’ve done. So our goal is almost like a coach, we’re trying to motivate you.
Dr. Nektarios Demetriou:
So almost think of it like the Tampa Bay Bucks, where the coach… you’re the quarterback, you’re the player. So we’re talking about the play and you put the play in action to score the touchdown. And that’s really the goal. So if we can sort of have a working relationship like the, it’s extremely important. And your history basically tells a story about you. So it’s important for us to know that history and to learn from it, and then to form a basis of treatment on that.
Maggie Rodriguez:
And lastly, Doctor, October 15th is coming up. I know that’s an important date, and there’s an important message to seniors around that date.
Dr. Nektarios Demetriou:
Yes. Absolutely. 65 years and above, Medicare offer you the opportunity to get a Welcome to Medicare physical, which enables us to basically go through your history and start ordering some blood work, like a cholesterol level to see where you are, and hopefully to get you on the right track where you need to be.
Maggie Rodriguez:
When’s a good time to call you for an appointment?
Dr. Nektarios Demetriou:
You can call us anytime you like during the week or when it’s convenient for you, and our operators and our staff will be happy to assist you.
Maggie Rodriguez:
Doctor, a pleasure meeting you and having you here. Thank you so much.
Dr. Nektarios Demetriou:
Thank you very, very much.
Maggie Rodriguez:
Our pleasure. And if you would like more information to find a physician or schedule an appointment, MillenniumPhysician.com is the place to go. Daytime will be right back.
